Onlar bunu Nyu-Yorkda BMT-nin Baş Assamblemyası çərçivəsində keçirilən Böyük Yeddiliyin iclasından sonra elan edib. İclasda həmçinin Körfəz ölkələrinin liderləri və qaçqın axınına məruz qalan Avropa ölkələrinin təmsilçiləri iştirak edib.
Bundan əlavə Yaponiya baş naziri Şinzo Abe ölkəsinin Suriya və İraqdan qaçan miqrantlara yardım məqsədilə 810 milyon dollar, Yaxın Şərq və Afrikada sülhün təmin olunması üçün isə əlavə 750 milyon dollar verəcəyini açıqlayıb.
BMT bildirib ki, yanvar ayından bəri Yaxın Şərq və Afrikadakı müharibə və yoxsulluqdan Aralıq Dənizi vasitəsilə 525 min insan qaçıb. Onların 383 mini Yunanıstan sahillərinə, 129 mini isə İtaliyaya gedib.
Qaçqın agentliyinin verdiyi məlumata görə, səfər zamanı 3 min nəfər batıb, ya da itkin düşüb.
Çərşənbə axşamı BMT-nin baş katibi Ban Gi Munun iki yüksək səviyyəli görüşlərdə qaçqın axını ilə əlaqəli çıxış edəcəyi gözlənilir. The world's seven leading industrialized countries pledged to contribute $1.8 billion to United Nations aid agencies to help with the world's worst migrant crisis since the second World War.

The announcement came Tuesday after a G7 meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York. Also attending the meeting were Gulf state leaders and those of some of the European nations dealing with the influx of displaced people. ((:18))

"The under-financing of these aid organizations is dramatic indeed, the UNHCR and the World Food Program are lacking 50 or up to 60 per cent (of funding needed). In such a situation it is the duty of the international community to make sure that the situation does not deteriorate and we need to lend assistance and help to the aid organization and the humanitarian organizations and thus also help the refugees."

Separately, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced his country will give $810 million to help with refugees from and within Syria and Iraq, the major sources of displacement -- and an additional $750 million to use for peace-building in the Middle East and Africa. ((:19))

The U.N. said nearly 515,000 asylum seekers have made the perilous Mediterranean Sea crossing to escape war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa since January, with 383,000 reaching the shores of Greece and another 129,000 landing in Italy. ((:18))

The refugee agency said nearly 3,000 have drowned or disappeared making the passage on rickety or overcrowded boats and rafts.
On Wednesday, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is scheduled to speak at two high-level meetings dealing with the upheaval. He will first address a Security Council discussion on settlement of conflicts in the the Middle East and north Africa, the areas many migrants are fleeing. And later he hosts a high-level meeting aimed at forming a global response to the flood of migrants now overwhelming Europe.
